Gustav Mahler in pictures
Who is this Mahler? The battle of the double man...
Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts were legendary youth concerts he presented with the New York Philharmonic. They were televised in the United States between 1958 and 1970 and had a huge impact on music education.
On the occasion of Mahler's 100ste birthday, the then relatively unknown composer was introduced to a young audience at Carnegie Hall on 7 March 1960. Master storyteller Bernstein played a crucial role in the rediscovery of Mahler as a composer.
